Product Development Specialist

Job Description

The Product Development Specialist is responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of products, from concept and design to launch and post-launch performance review. The role involves researching market trends, understanding customer needs, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet business objectives and customer expectations.

The Job Scope


  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify opportunities and trends.
  • Assist in product ideation, concept development, and specification preparation.
  • Work closely with R&D, engineering, marketing, and sales teams to ensure product requirements are clearly understood and executed.
  • Support product testing, quality checks, and feedback analysis.
  • Prepare product documentation, user manuals, and training materials.
  • Assist with product launches and coordinate with marketing and sales teams for go-to-market activities.
  • Monitor product performance post-launch and recommend improvements or enhancements.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of product development activities.
  • Support the continuous improvement of processes, workflows, and product offerings.
 

Skills Required


Academic Requirement


 
SPM / O-Level
  • Minimum 3 credits, usually Mathematics and one Science/technical subject recommended.

  • Pass in English (compulsory).
  • SPM is generally the minimum requirement for entry-level support roles, but most Product Development roles require higher qualifications.

Diploma
  • Diploma in relevant fields (e.g., Business, Marketing, Engineering, Product Design, Science).

  • Minimum CGPA 2.0 – 2.5 depending on employer.
  • Typically qualifies for junior or support-level product roles.

Degree / Bachelor’s
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Engineering, Product Design, Science, or related disciplines.

  • Preferred for entry-level specialist roles and above.
  • Degrees from accredited local or recognized overseas institutions are standard.

  • Practical exposure, internships, or industry projects are an advantage.
Certification (Optional / Recommended)
  • Professional certifications relevant to product or project management (e.g., Certified Product Manager, Project Management Professional (PMP)) may improve employability.

  • Postgraduate qualification (e.g., MBA) is a plus.

 

Salary Range


  • Fresh Graduate / Entry Level
    Typically around RM2,500 – RM4,000 per month for entry-level roles in product support, product specialist, or junior product development roles, depending on company size, industry, and location (Kuala Lumpur or Klang Valley tends to be higher).
  • Mid / Senior Specialist Level
    For experienced Product Development Specialists with several years of experience (usually 3–7 years), typical salaries fall roughly in the range of RM4,000 – RM7,500+ per month as responsibilities extend beyond execution to product strategy and cross-functional coordination.
