Complementary Medicine Specialist
Job Description
A Complementary Medicine Specialist provides holistic diagnosis and treatment using recognized complementary and traditional health practices. This includes consultation, treatment planning, lifestyle and dietary advice, and supporting patient well‑being through non‑conventional methods consistent with traditional healing systems.
The Job Scope
- Clinical practice in private or integrated healthcare settings.
- May operate in dedicated PT&K units within hospitals or standalone complementary medicine clinics.
- Direct patient care through consultations, follow-ups, and traditional therapy administration.
- Community outreach and public education on complementary health approaches.
- Participation in training, research, or supervision of junior practitioners depending on institutional structure.
Skills Required
Solid understanding of traditional medicine diagnostic methods and treatment modalities (e.g., acupuncture, herbal medicine).
Strong interpersonal and patient communication skills (explaining complex treatments).
Clinical decision making and ethical patient care approach.
Ability to maintain professional documentation and follow safety standards.
Cultural sensitivity and teamwork in multidisciplinary settings.
Academic Requirement
SPM / O-Level

Minimum 5 credits including Science subjects (e.g., Biology, Chemistry) and Mathematics

Pass in English
Foundation / Pre-University / Diploma

Foundation in Science or related field with minimum CGPA 2.0–2.5
- Diploma in Complementary Medicine, Traditional Medicine, or Health Sciences with minimum CGPA 2.0
Degree / Bachelor’s

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Traditional & Complementary Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, or Chiropractic
- Must include clinical practicum or supervised training in line with professional standards
Certification (Optional / Recommended)

Additional certifications in specific modalities (e.g., acupuncture, herbal therapy, chiropractic techniques)
- Professional registration with relevant Malaysian regulatory bodies (if applicable)
Postgraduate (Optional / Career Advancement)

Master’s or Doctoral degrees in complementary medicine or related research fields
- Enables specialization, academic roles, or senior clinical positions
Salary Range

Entry / Junior Practitioners
RM2,000 – RM5,000 per month (common in private clinics).

Acupuncturists
~RM3,500 – RM6,000 + commission.

Senior/Experienced Specialists (TCM Physician/Traditional Medical Specialist)
~RM6,000 – RM10,000+ per month depending on experience and clinical setting.
