Nurse
Job Description
Nurses are responsible for being at the forefront of medical staff and providing practical patient care in a variety of situations, including hospitals, clinics, life support facilities and outpatient care centres. As a member of the healthcare system, RN offers a wide range of patient services, including prevention and primary care, patient education on disease prevention, medical device operation, and drug administration.
The Job Scope
- Carry out doctors’ orders, including medication administration, injections, wound care, and patient monitoring.
- Monitor patient conditions and vital signs, and assist in clinical procedures and emergency care when required.
- Assist surgeons during patient consultations, examinations, procedures, and surgeries.
- Provide comprehensive nursing care, including suture removal, dressing changes, wound management, and post-procedure care.
- Prepare patients for hospital-based surgical procedures and support peri-operative care.
- Educate patients and families on care techniques, recovery, and health maintenance.
- Collaborate with doctors and healthcare professionals to implement individualised patient care plans.
- Ensure surgical instruments, medical equipment, and consumables are properly maintained, sterilised, and adequately stocked.
- Maintain clinic cleanliness and ensure compliance with health, safety, and infection control protocols.
- Perform general nursing, administrative, and shift-based duties, including nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.
Skills Required
Strong clinical nursing skills, including medication administration, wound care, and patient monitoring
Ability to assist in clinical and surgical procedures confidently and safely
Good knowledge of infection control, sterilisation, and patient safety protocols
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with patients, families, and healthcare teams
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
Strong attention to detail and accurate clinical documentation
Ability to work under pressure, manage emergencies, and prioritise tasks
Compassionate, patient-centred, and professional approach to care
Physically fit and able to perform shift-based duties, including nights and weekends
Basic computer skills for documentation and administrative tasks
Academic Requirement

SPM / O-Level
Minimum 3–5 credits, including English, Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Required to progress to foundation, pre-university, or diploma programmes.

Foundation / Pre-University / Diploma
Foundation in Science, STPM, A-Level, or equivalent.
Diploma in Nursing allows direct entry into the profession.

Degree / Bachelor’s
Bachelor of Nursing from an accredited institution is required.
Necessary for professional registration and higher-level roles.

Licensing & Certification
Registered Nurse with the Malaysian Nursing Board
Valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC) for the current year

Speciality certifications (e.g., ICU, pediatric, wound care) enhance employability and clinical skills. -
Postgraduate (Optional / Career Advancement)
Master’s or Doctorate in Nursing or Healthcare Management.
Prepares for leadership, research, teaching, or specialised clinical roles.
Salary Range

Fresh Graduate / Entry Level
Newly qualified nurses in Malaysia typically start at about RM2,000 – RM3,000 per month depending on workplace and experience.

Mid Level / Registered Nurse
With a few years’ experience, nurses generally earn RM3,000 – RM4,500 per month.

Senior / Charge Nurse
Experienced nurses or those in supervisory roles can expect around RM4,500 – RM6,500 per month.

Advanced / Manager Level
Senior leadership roles such as nurse manager or specialist positions can earn RM6,500 – RM10,000+ per month in some settings.
