Job Description

The Dietitian is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and managing nutritional and dietary problems through evidence-based medical nutrition therapy. The role involves translating scientific and clinical nutrition knowledge into practical, personalised guidance to support individuals in meeting their nutritional needs, making appropriate lifestyle and food choices, managing disease conditions, and promoting overall health and well-being. The Dietitian also ensures the provision of safe, nutritious, and appropriate food services in accordance with professional, regulatory, and organisational standards.

The Job Scope

  • Deliver end-to-end dietetic care including nutrition screening, assessment, intervention, counselling, and medical nutrition therapy
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to support patient care and case management
  • Develop, review, and implement clinical nutrition programmed, protocols, and education materials
  • Support food service operations, menu planning, therapeutic diets, and food safety audits
  • Participate in quality improvement projects, audits, and departmental initiatives
  • Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and compliance with professional and hospital standards

Strong clinical nutrition and medical nutrition therapy knowledge aligned with MOH clinical practice guidelines.

Academic Requirement

 
Bachelor
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics or equivalent from accredited programmes, either locally or overseas.
  • The degree programme must include stipulated hours of supervised dietetics practicum, covering food service, community dietetics, and clinical training, in accordance with professional and regulatory requirements.
SPM / O-Level (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 credits, including:
    - Chemistry
    - Biology (preferred)
    - Mathematics
  • Pass in Bahasa Melayu (for Malaysian candidates)
  • Pass in English
Foundation / Pre-University / Diploma
  • Foundation in Science or related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.0
    (Some institutions may require CGPA 2.5, depending on programme accreditation)
  • Diploma in Dietetics, Nutrition, or related health sciences with minimum CGPA of 2.0, subject to institutional requirements
Professional Registration
  • Registered Dietitian and eligible for Ordinary Membership with the Malaysian Dietitians’ Association (MDA).

Salary Range

  • Entry-Level / Fresh Graduate
    Around RM2,500 – RM3,000 per month. This is typical for private clinics, wellness centres, or smaller hospitals.
  • Average / General Roles
    Approximately RM2,800 – RM3,400 per month, reflecting standard positions across Malaysia, including mid-level hospital roles.
  • Experienced / Clinical Roles
    Can range from RM3,000 up to RM8,000+, particularly in private practice or larger hospitals such as IHH Healthcare. Salary depends on experience, specialization, and location.
  • Government / Ministry of Health Roles
    Senior or managerial positions in the public sector can offer RM7,000 – RM19,000 per month, depending on seniority, allowances, and MOH pay scales.
