Job Description

Building surveyors offer professional advice on factors affecting existing buildings such as building defects, alterations, renovations and extensions, as well as on the design and construction of new buildings.

They work mostly on site to monitor the performance of structures and devise ways to improve them or correct flaws in their design.

Surveyors work alongside construction workers, safety officers and other professionals to ensure projects meet the relevant safety, sustainability and preservation standards

The Job Scope

  • Advising clients about building/property issues, which can include technical, financial, legal, environmental/sustainability, building regulation and restoration matters
  • Monitoring the deterioration or defects of a property and offering advice on repair work
  • Assessing the impact of unexpected damage on insurance, for example after a fire or flood
  • Managing projects and/or multidisciplinary teams. Also undertaking building surveys.

Academic Requirement

Degree in Building Surveying
  • Recognised by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA)
  • A-Level
    Minimum of 3 passes including Mathematics & a Science subject
  • STPM
    Principal passes including Mathematics or related subjects
  • SPM / O-Level
    Minimum 3 credits including Mathematics & a Science subject
  • Diploma / Foundation
    Diploma or Foundation in Building Surveying, Construction, Civil Engineering or related field
  • Professional Recognition
    Membership with Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) – helpful for career progression
  • Additional certifications (advantageous):
  • Building Information Modelling (BIM)
  • ISO / sustainability courses

Salary Range

 

Fresh / Entry: RM3,800 – RM5,000
 

Mid-Level: RM5,500 – RM8,000

 
Senior: RM8,000 – RM11,000+
 
Lead / Principal: RM11,000 – RM15,000+
